Major scene from ‘Avengers: Endgame’ trailer isn’t in the movie. Or is it?

One of the most significant scenes in the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer might not be in the film at all.
“Endgame” directors Joe and Anthony Russo were recently interviewed by Fox 5’s Kevin McCarthy about the upcoming Marvel film.
He asked a pointed question about the family scene in the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer, which is when Captain America/Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) finally reunite.

- “My favorite moment in the new trailer is Tony saying ‘Do you trust me?’ and Cap goes ‘I do,’” Fox’s Kevin McCarthy told the Russos during the interview. “Like, to me, that could have been a moment where there could have been a joke or whatever, ‘cause they have that funny banter back and forth. But it was a beautiful moment because of the stakes of what’s happening. Just because that moment is out there and in the trailers, directing that scene, having those two, knowing what happened in Infinity War, knowing what happened with Thanos’s snap, what was it like to be behind the camera in that moment?”
- “Well, it’s an amazing moment, but we can’t go into too much detail,” Anthony Russo replied.
- Joe Russo added, “That scene isn’t in the movie.”
- “So you know that we tell people that we manipulate trailers in order to obfuscate what happens in these films?” Joe Russo said. “That actually is not in the movie.”
- Anthony Russo then added, “The relationship between Tony Stark and Steve Rogers is a relationship that we’ve been following for a long time,” Anthony said. “That is a very special story arc.”
- Joe Russo did add, “Am I joking?” So it’s possible the scene could be in the film.

Flashback: In March, Joe Russo talked about how he and Anthony convinced the marketing teams to mislead audiences when it comes to the “Avengers: Endgame” trailer, according to Empire Online (via ComingSoon).
- “We talked about all scales of marketing. The thing that’s most important to us is that we preserve the surprise of the narrative. When I was a kid and saw ‘The Empire Strikes Back’ at 11 a.m. on the day it opened … it so profoundly moved me because I didn’t know a damn thing about the story I was going to watch. We’re trying to replicate that experience,” he said, according to SlashFilm.
- In 2018, the Russos said something similar after a scene from the “Infinity War” trailer that showed the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) running with the Avengers never appeared in that movie.
- “We look at the trailer as a very different experience than the movie, and I think audiences are so predictive now that you have to be very smart about how you craft a trailer because an audience can watch a trailer and basically tell you what’s gonna happen in the film. We consume too much content,” the Russos said, according to SlashFilm. “So at our disposal are lots of different shots that aren’t in the movie that we can manipulate through CG to tell a story that we want to tell specifically for the purpose of the trailer and not for the film.”
