Seattle’s Beloved Broadcaster Dave Ross Announces Retirement After 47 Years of Impactful Service at KIRO Newsradio

SEATTLE, WA – November 21st, 2024 –KIRO Newsradio is announcing the upcoming retirement of one of Seattle’s most influential and trusted broadcasters, Dave Ross. After 47 years with the station, Dave will step down on December 19, leaving a legacy that has deeply impacted both KIRO Newsradio and the Seattle community.
In addition to Dave’s retirement, Colleen O’Brien, who has been a key voice on Seattle’s Morning News alongside Dave for many years, will also be stepping away from her role. Colleen’s last day on air will be Friday, December 19th. Colleen has been an integral part of the morning show, providing sharp insights and a compassionate presence to Seattle listeners.

Dave joined KIRO Newsradio in 1978 as a news reporter and anchor, quickly becoming a trusted voice for listeners across the Pacific Northwest. Known for his thoughtful commentary and balanced perspective, he has encouraged listeners to think critically about important issues for nearly half a century. In 1987, he began hosting “The Dave Ross Show,” where his engaging storytelling and sense of humor made complex topics accessible and relatable. Since 2013, Dave has anchored “Seattle’s Morning News,” guiding Seattleites through daily headlines with clarity and insight.
Throughout his career, Dave has conducted memorable newsmaker interviews, drawing out meaningful insights from a wide range of guests. His integrity and credibility have earned him the trust of our audience over decades. He’s been actively involved in the Seattle community, highlighting local issues and participating in civic events.
Dave has witnessed and narrated some of the most pivotal events in recent history. He reported from Ground Zero following the September 11 attacks, covered U.S. Central Command in Qatar during the Iraq War in 2003, and broadcast from Baghdad in April 2004. His international reporting includes assignments in Jerusalem during the Intifada, the Soviet Union during its dissolution, the fall of the Berlin Wall, and broadcasts from China, Hong Kong, and Japan.
His exceptional news commentaries have been recognized with the prestigious National Edward R. Murrow Award for writing five times, highlighting his outstanding storytelling and journalistic integrity.
