SALT LAKE CITY, UT – Hope in Darkness: The Josh Holt Story, American Josh Holt and his Venezuelan wife-to-be Thamy fell in love from three thousand miles apart. Just two weeks into their marriage, pounding on the door changed their new life in an instant.
That knock, in the middle of the night, came from police from the government of Nicolás Maduro. They then burst into their home, kidnapped the Holts, and took them captive. The Holts’ dream relationship distorted into a nightmare in a split second.
“A lot of people don’t realize the horrendous abuse Josh’s wife, Thamy, endured on his behalf,” says Becky Bruce, Podcast Host and KSL Reporter. “At any time during their 23 months at El Helicoide, she could have signed a paper saying Josh was guilty and she would have gained her freedom.
She never signed it, even when she was tortured.”
From KSL Podcasts, the creators of the smash-hit podcast Cold (now optioned for tv series development), comes Hope in Darkness: The Josh Holt Story.
The new 12-part series details a harrowing journey of the two years Josh and Thamy spent inside a notorious Venezuelan prison, El Helicoide, known for torture, violence, and overcrowding.
From the tireless efforts of their families working to get them home to the inspiring ways they coped while incarcerated, KSL host Becky Bruce and Josh Holt himself share a story of devotion, determination, and Hope in Darkness, premiering May 27th.
“We are happy the full story of what happened to Josh and Thamy Holt is finally being told. It’s a story of survival and fortitude under deplorable conditions and of the strength of the human spirit to overcome,” says Sherly Worsley, Director Audience Development, Bonneville Salt Lake. “A podcast is a great way to give this story its full context.”
