It became one of the hottest singles in the U.S. after it was first released in December 2018, then gained popularity on the app TikTok.
The rest of the web caught the “Old Town Road” fever and the song rapidly became a popular meme on Twitter and other social media platforms.

Now the “Old Town Road” music video has finally ridden into town.
Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus take on the look of Old West robbers as they’re chased down the road on horseback by a group led by Chris Rock.
They run into a mine that, like an “Alice in Wonderland” rabbit hole, pulls them into the 21st century.
There, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus interact with the locals, race against vehicles on horseback and perform at the town hall.
