New Disneyland plan will require guests to make plans in advance

A new Disneyland annual pass is on the way, and it will require guests to make their plans in advance, the Orange County Register reports.

The new Disney Flex plan, which will cost $599, will go on sale May 21, which is when it can be used, according to the Register.

The $599 plan will fit between the $399 SoCal Select plan, which has a number of restrictions, and a $799 Deluxe plan, which doesn’t have as many block-out dates.

No current annual plan is being dropped.

• “Disney hopes the lower-priced Flex pass offers visitors more flexibility in planning trips to Disneyland and Disney California Adventure while providing the theme park more control over crowd management. The goal: To smooth demand that varies throughout the year based on school schedules, seasonal events, annual passholder block-out dates and the whims of the calendar,” according to the Register.

According to the Register, the standing theory is that the Flex pass would give Disneyland guests access every day of the year except for the two weeks surrounding Christmas. But it’s possible customers could miss 200 dates per year.

The new Flex Pass is a way for Disneyland to ease crowding ahead of “Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge,” which will open on May 31, The Los Angeles Times reports.
