‘Jeopardy!’ contestant breaks record with $110,000 win. Here’s why the number matters
Apr 11, 2019
“Jeopardy!” contestant James Holzhauer just broke an all-time record.
Holzhauer, who is a professional sports bettor in Las Vegas, set the new single-day record for “Jeopardy” on Tuesday, recording $110,914, according to CNN.
Contestant Roger Craig set the previous record of $77,000 on Sept. 19, 2010.
- “I said all along that I wanted to break Roger Craig’s one-game record and I did it,” Holzhauer said.
Holzhauer won $110,914 on Tuesday specifically to honor his daughter, whose birthday is Nov. 9, 2014 (11/09/14), according to Uproxx. Holzhauer has won the competition for three days in a row. He has earned a total of $244,365 during his streak.
He still has a long way to catch up to Ken Jennings, who won $2.5 million after recording 74 consecutive wins back in 2014, according to the Deseret News.
