Will Avengers actually team up with Thanos in ‘Avengers: Endgame’? Here’s what happened in the comics

Will the Avengers have a new foe in “Avengers: Endgame”?

On Tuesday, a new trailer for “Avengers: Endgame” dropped, along with the announcement that tickets for the show are now on sale.

In the trailer, the Avengers — Captain America (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) and more — all prepare to face off with Thanos (Josh Brolin) once again.

But a glance through the comic book history of the Avengers, Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet show that this might not entirely be the case.

See, according to ComicBook.com, the Thanos toy from Build-A-Bear might reveal spoilers for the film. In fact, the bear comes with two featured phrases, which indicate a change in who holds the Infinity Gauntlet, the powerful weapon that wiped out half the universe in “Infinity War.”

The bear’s two phrases include: “I had all the power in my grasp” and “How are you doing this? You do not have the will to wield the power of the infinity stones!”

Both phrases would indicate that someone else controls the Infinity Gauntlet, or, at the very least, Thanos loses control of it, ComicBook.com theorizes.

Comics: Well, the original “Infinity War” comic book series backs this up.

The six-issue series includes a section where Nebula, the granddaughter of Thanos in the comics, rips the Gauntlet off of her grandfather’s arm and wears it herself, which stops Thanos from leaving his physical body to become “an astral entity,” Polygon reports. Nebula nurses herself back to full health and then wields the weapon herself.

“When a handful of remaining heroes — and Thanos — confront Nebula and ask her to give up the Gauntlet, she and Thanos fall into an argument. And to spite him, Nebula uses the Gauntlet to undo everything he did with it,” according to Polygon.

And — to get a step farther — reversing the Snap in the comics leads Nebula to turn back into her deformed self, according to The Wrap. She stops multiple people from stealing that gauntlet from her until Adam Warlock — who we probably won’t see until “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” — causes a breakup in the stones and grabs control of the Gauntlet. Thanos disappears and Nebula is tried for her crimes as a space pirate, according to The Wrap.

Yes, but: And, in case that’s not enough, there’s actually an entire “Infinity War” theory out there that Nebula is the true villain of the “Infinity War” movie.
