Verizon to launch robocall blocking app
Mar 26, 2019
Verizon is about to offer a free robocall blocking app beginning at the end of March, Forbes reports.
Verizon expects to have details on the new app by the end of the week.
Verizon already offers a paid blocking app for $2.99 per month. But there will now be a free version of the app that will help people block out robocalls.
The paid version of the app blocks out suspicious calls by comparing them to a list of spam numbers. These numbers are constantly updated throughout the day.
A new report from January found that there were 26.3 billion robocalls to U.S. phone numbers in 2018, according to the Deseret News.
The report, which came from Hiya, found Americans reported an average of 10 unwanted robocalls per month.
According to The Washington Post, “many more incoming calls, about 60 on average, were from unrecognized numbers.”
“As our phones continue to be inundated by robocalls, many people no longer want to pick up the phone at all,” Hiya chief executive Alex Algard told The Washington Post.
