ABC to rename this ‘Good Morning America’ show

Jan 28, 2019

A “Good Morning America” show will have a new title for ABC, according to multiple reports.

“GMA Day” will now be known as “Strahan and Sara,” according to Variety. The program will receive a new look as well, a source familiar with the matter told Variety.

  • “Audience members present at Monday morning’s taping of the program will notice a new set and logo that tamp down the emphasis on the show’s links to ABC’s morning flagship and place more significance on hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines.”

History: ABC announced Strahan and Haines as the hosts of the “GMA Day” show back in July, according to AdWeek, hoping to expand the “Good Morning America” slate of programs into the afternoon.

By the numbers: “Good Morning America” received more than $350 million in ad revenue in 2017, according to Kantar Media, which tracks ad spending, Variety reports.

However: There’s still room to grow. According to TheWrap, the show hasn’t surpassed the numbers for “The Chew,” which aired in the same slot years ago.

  • “Evidently, ABC News executives believe the opportunity for growth exists, and see any hope for success as being tied directly to the two big personalities in front of the cameras,” according to TheWrap.
