The Razr is probably coming back, reports say; here’s what we know

The Motorola Razr is coming back.

The Motorola Razr, which achieved monumental popularity back in the early 2000s as one of the first premier, super-thin phones, will return soon in the form of a smartphone, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Lenovo, which owns the Motorola brand after a 2014 purchase from Google, will bring the phone back with a foldable screen, WSJ reports.

• It’s unclear yet if the phone will support 5G or what the screen size will be, according to USA Today.

• Lenovo is reportedly working with Verizon to release the device, WSJ reports.

Price: The phone will probably cost close to $1,500. There reportedly will be only 200,000 units made.

Remember: The Motorola Razr was the premier phone back in the day. In fact, the device sold more than 130 million units in four years, Bloomberg reports.

Flashback: Motorola attempted to bring back the phone in 2011 and 2012, according to The Verge. Motorola worked with Verizon for the Droid RAZR devices, which were really nothing like the original.

Two things: Bringing back old phones in new forms is something of a recent trend, according to The Verge. Nokia has attempted to do so with two new devices.

• And then there’s the recent trend to add new foldable phones into the market. Samsung is rumored to release a flip phone this year, which I wrote about for the Deseret News.
