Toyota recalls 1.7 million cars; here’s what we know

Toyota wants its 1.7 million cars back.

What happened: Toyota issued a recall for 1.7 million vehicles in North America, hoping to replace the potentially fatal passenger airbag inflators, according to The Associated Press.

The decision will call for 1.3 million cars in the United States specifically.

This is one of the largest automotive recalls in U.S. history, according to the AP.

What’s wrong?: “Takata inflators can explode with too much force and hurl shrapnel into drivers and passengers. At least 23 people have been killed worldwide and hundreds have been injured,” according to the Associated Press.

Toyota 4Runner (2010 through 2016)

Toyota Corolla and Matrix (2010 through 2013)

Toyota Sienna (2011 through 2014)

Lexus ES 350 (2010 through 2012)

Lexus GX 460 (2010 through 2017)

Lexus IS 250C and 350C (2010 through 2015)

Lexus IS 250 and 350 (2010 through 2013)

Lexus IS-F (2010 through 2014)

Lexus Scion XB (2010 through 2015)

Flashback: Toyota recalled 70,000 cars from Toyota and Lexus back in December 2018, according to the Deseret News.

That recall included the following cars:

Toyota Corolla (model years 2003 to 2005)

Toyota Sequoia (model years 2002 to 2005)

Toyota Tundra (model years 2003 to 2005)

Lexus SC430 (model years 2002 to 2005)
