‘Avengers: Endgame’ tops list of most-anticipated films of 2019; here’s what else made the list

Jan 03, 2019

By Herb Scribner

You won’t be surprised to find out that “Avengers: End Game” is one of the most highly anticipated films for next week.

What’s going on: A new poll from USA Today and Fandango asked moviegoers to identify which films they’re most excited for in 2019.

Method: The survey polled more than 3,500 visitors to Fandango.

‘Avengers’: “Avengers: Endgame” topped the list as fans waited to see what happens in aftermath of “Avengers: Infinity War,” when several lovable heroes like Spider-Man, Black Panther and Star-Lord became nothing but ash.

  • “There’s 10 years of investment built into this series,” said Erik Davis, Fandango’s managing editor, according to USA Today. “Fans are dying to see how it ends.”
  • “They were definitely happy with the last ‘Avengers,’ but it was a bit of a hard pill to swallow, as entertaining as it was. … Do they bring these characters back? This film is going to set the stage for whatever the next iteration of these Marvel movies is.”

Other top favorites: “Captain Marvel” finished as the second-most popular film, followed by “Star Wars: Episode IX.”

Following those films, the new “Joker” film from DC Comics, which is due out on Oct. 4, also gained a lot of attention as the No. 10 most-anticipated film.

Disney: Disney films appeared on the list, with “Toy Story 4” ranking at No. 5, “The Lion King” at No. 7, “Aladdin” at No. 8 and “Dumbo” at No. 10.

More big films: GameSpot put together a list of highly anticipated movies for next year, including “Glass from M. Night Shyamalan,” “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part,” and “Us” from director Jordan Peele.
